Yahoo CEO and co-founder Jerry Yang announced his pending resignation as CEO Nov. 17 after facing months of grueling pressure from shareholders, employees and an unsuccessful hostile takeover attempt by Microsoft. In an e-mail to all Yahoo employees, CEO Jerry Yang, who had been under a great deal of criticism in the wake of the botched merger with Microsoft, said he will return to his former role as so-called "Chief Yahoo" when a new CEO is named.

Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang will resign and Yahoo's Board of Directors is searching for a new CEO. Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang took on the CEO role in June 2007 in an effort to turn the company around. Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang will return to his former role as "Chief Yahoo," once a CEO successor has been found. "From founding this company to guiding its growth into a trusted global brand that is indispensable to millions of people, I have always sought to do what is best for our franchise," Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang said in a statement.

Mark Cuban, Internet mogul and owner of the Dallas Mavericks NBA basketball team, was charged Nov. 17 by the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) with insider trading in shares of Mamma.com, an Internet search engine firm. Cuban, one of the five finalists to buy the Chicago Cubs baseball team, faces civil charges by acting on nonpublic information and selling shares of Mamma.com to avoid more than $750,000 in losses, the SEC alleged. According to the SEC, Mamma.com invited Cuban to participate in a stock offering that would be conducted at a discount to the market price after he agreed to keep the information confidential.

Infovell, the search engine that lets users sift through medical journals, Wikipedia and patent documents, is now called DeepDyve. The name change coincides with the launch of the site's consumer-facing search, which is free but supported by ads. DeepDyve will also now search IT, clean technology and energy content.
