Credible Business Case Print

ImageWe were initially engaged to define business processes for an Electronic Document and Record Management (EDRM) system for a central government department.  This migrated into requirements definition and business case support.

What we did

The business case support involved defining the benefits realisation strategy.  We quantified financial and non financial metrics and benefit indicators using industry numbers and explicit assumptions for the initial business case.  Measurements prior to a pilot implementation established a baseline and during the course of the pilot with 500 users, measurements were taken to prove actual levels of performance from the user and business perspective.  The results showed that the business case was only viable if costs could be reduced by a factor of ten (which wasn't considered possible).

The outcome for the client

This was not the outcome originally anticipated but as a result the business case enabled the client to make the hard decision to halt the project.  This saved tens of £M investment which would have not yielded a net benefit in financial terms or improved value to the business.
